SEOUL, May 13 (Yonhap) — On Tuesday, Samsung Electronics Co. launched its latest Galaxy S25 Edge smartphone, showcasing a sleek slim profile, enhanced camera capabilities, and integrated AI technologies.

The latest smartphone has a thickness of 5.8 millimeters, which is notably slimmer compared to the Galaxy S25’s 7.2 mm and the Galaxy S25 Plus’ 7.6 mm, as stated by the company.

It has a weight of 163 grams, which is marginally heavier compared to the typical S25's 162 grams.

Even with its sleek design and lightweight build, the Galaxy S25 Edge retains all the advanced features of the regular S25 model, such as a 200-megapixel high-resolution camera and onboard artificial intelligence functionalities.

Samsung Electronics stated that the Edge model is driven by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8Elite chip, which is also utilized in the top-tier Galaxy S25 series.

The latest phone includes a screen safeguarded by Corning Inc.'s Gorilla Glass, aimed at boosting toughness and preventing breakage.

The firm stressed that the Edge is not a limited release for this year; however, they have not yet determined if the model will be integrated as a consistent member of the Galaxy S25 series.

Kang Min-seok, who leads smartphone product planning at Samsung Electronics, stated, "This will be a key example from the S25 series."

"After assessing customer demands, technological trends, ideal pricing strategies, and generational inclinations, we will determine how to incorporate it into our upcoming year’s schedule," Kang stated during a press briefing.

Samsung Electronics intends to introduce the Galaxy S25 Edge in approximately 30 countries such as the United States, China, and major European markets. Nonetheless, specific global rollout timings remain unconfirmed at this time.

The Galaxy S25 Edge will hit shelves in South Korea on May 23, with pre-orders accepted between May 14 and May 20. The price for this model will begin at 1.49 million won ($1,055) Korean Won.
