Terumo and Sanofi-Aventis Partner in Vietnam to Boost Interventional Cardiology Expertise

Terumo Vietnam Medical Equipment (Terumo Vietnam) along with Sanofi-Aventis Vietnam have entered into a two-year partnership aimed at enhancing the skills of healthcare providers in the field of interventional cardiology.

Cardiovascular diseases are increasingly prevalent in Vietnam, with acute coronary syndromes (ACS) now being among the top reasons for hospital admissions and fatalities. As reported by the World Health Organization (WHO), these conditions were responsible for almost 70% of non-communicable disease-related deaths in Vietnam up until 2016, underscoring the critical necessity for better treatment protocols and advanced capabilities among primary healthcare providers.

Acknowledging this issue, Terumo Vietnam and Sanofi-Aventis Vietnam—two leading players in healthcare dedicated to progressing medical knowledge and enhancing patient care—are joining forces to tackle training deficiencies and foster continuous professional growth among interventional cardiologists across the country. At the heart of their collaboration lies the introduction of the PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention) Roadshow series—a thorough educational program. Over the course of the next 24 months, this series aims to conduct five concentrated workshops spread out through various regions of Vietnam.

Every PCI workshop will include cutting-edge case-based education, practical sessions using sophisticated simulation tools, guided conversations led by experts about approaches to ACS management, as well as the newest knowledge on PCI procedures and advancements in medical devices.

The objective of this program is to keep doctors informed about updated guidelines and best practices, as well as encourage peer-to-peer education and collaborative efforts across different regions within Vietnam’s cardiovascular field.

Nguyen Do Bao Chau, the General Director of Terumo Vietnam, highlighted the significance of doctor education for improving the entire healthcare framework. She stated, "Investing in the growth of medical personnel allows us to support a more robust system capable of promptly and efficiently addressing patient needs." This collaboration underscores their enduring dedication to advancing societal well-being via healthcare improvements.

Didier Martin, who leads the pharmaceutical division at Sanofi-Aventis Vietnam, emphasized the importance of strategic partnerships in fostering healthcare innovations. He stated, “Collaboration plays a vital role in promoting innovation and enhancing patient results at Sanofi. In cardiovascular treatment, our company boasts considerable experience. By joining forces with Terumo’s cutting-edge medical technology, we aspire to develop a system that greatly improves the expertise of interventional cardiologists, thus positively impacting patients throughout Vietnam.”

The first workshop, scheduled for mid-2025, has instilled optimism in both firms regarding the initiative’s beneficial effects. This collaboration extends beyond initial educational activities; it paves the way for potential joint ventures in clinical instruction, investigation, and healthcare services.
